Thirty years ago, the INROADS internship program and Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC) created the Kaiser Permanente Learn About Unlimited New Careers in Healthcare (K.P.L.A.U.N.C.H.) partnership. Nested in the Western region of INROADS, KPSC boasts 22 interns sponsored by KPSC Community Benefit. Students are chosen from thousands of applicants for internships in various departments within Kaiser Permanente, including public affairs, pharmacy, human resources, and communications.

INROADS began with founder Frank C. Carr’s vision “to develop and place talented, underserved youth in business and industry, and prepare them for corporate and community leadership.” Aside from competitively-paying internships, with community service, leadership workshops, networking opportunities, and GPA requirements, INROADS continues to breed young professionals that are prepared to excel in any career upon graduation.

Each summer, INROADS interns create a newsletter to give a glimpse into their nine-week work experience at KPSC. This year, students took a fresh, innovative approach to the traditional newsletter, and created a webpage to showcase not only their professional maturation through INROADS + K.P.L.A.U.N.C.H., but also the friendships harbored and wisdom imparted along the way.
